Our newest production facility: KAZAN SODA

Kazan Soda Elektrik Uretim A.S. is an operating company of WE Soda. Kazan Soda Elektrik is the largest natural heavy trona and sodium bicarbonate producer in Europe.

Kazan Soda Elektrik Üretim A.Ş., which is located in the north-west of Ankara with a 1.9 billion dollar investment, was officially opened on Monday, January 15, 2018. Kazan Soda Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. is producing trona, which is the tenth most traded chemical in the world with a trade volume of 15 billion dollars.

Kazan Soda has reached approximately 650 employees with the investment in the trona facility with a 2.9 million tonnes of production capacity. Kazan Soda Elektrik Üretim A.Ş., owning the world’s largest scale solution extraction, trona production facility, the biggest cogeneration plants of Turkey with its 380 MWe and 400 tons of steam production exports the entire production. Kazan Soda Production Plan, which meets 14 percent of the total natural trona needs of the world makes a great contribution to close the current account deficit of Turkey with its domestic and national production.

Heavy Trona (Sodium Carbonate) and Sodium Bicarbonate used in the production of many products from glass to baking powder are exported to many regions of the world, in particular the member states of the European Union, and substantial export revenues are provided to the country’s economy.

Kazan Soda through the years

Kazan Soda Elektrik Üretim Inc. was established on February 11, 2011 in order to extract, operate, and extract the trona discovered in 1998 within Ankara’s Kazan and Sincan Provinces while contributing to Turkish Economy.

2017

Kazan Soda production started.

Kazan Soda Üretim A.Ş. 271 MW Temporary Acceptance of Gas Turbine was approved on August 18, 2017 and commercial production at the facility began on August 19, 2017. The facility was commissioned in August, 2017. 

2015

Construction, assembly, and manufacturing activities were carried out between 2015 and 2016.

2014

Kazan Soda construction started

2013

In 2013, the financial and contractual work of the project was started. In November 2014, the turnkey contract for the construction of process plant, extracting plant, and cogeneration power plant was signed.

2011

Kazan Soda established.

In 2011, the project work was started and a pilot plant was established. In the second half of 2011, Dense Soda Ash (Sodium Carbonate) was started to be produced at the pilot plant.

2009

Various geological, hydro geological, sociological, and environmental studies were carried out, and the amount of resources / reserves was determined until 2010. RioTur Mining was taken over by Ciner Group on December 30, 2010.

2007

Trona was discovered by RioTur Mining which belongs to Rio Tinto group.
